CINEMATOGRAFUL POLITIC – Democraţia aducând provocări lumii post-socialiste

Între 28 mai şi 23 iunie 2015, la Apartamentul Deschis, în cadrul Cinematografului Politic va fi oranizată o serie de proiecţii ce va aborda transformarea societăţii cehe şi slovace prin filmele lui Vit Janecek şi Zusana Piussi.

Filmele monitorizează societăţile cehă şi slovacă. Deşi ne place să ne definim ca un popor prietenos, atent, frumos şi muncitor, încă nu suntem în stare să îmblânzim rezultatele negative ale perioadei de tranziţie, precum acordarea de putere, privatizarea proprietăţii publice sau căutarea unei noi identităţi naţionale. Seria de filme contextualizează procesul de dezvoltare prin care trece orice societate în perioada democraţiei nou-obţinute şi în contextul unei structuri de stat nou-definite.

Filmele vor fi proiectate în limba originală cu subtitre în engleză.

Identitate fragilă

În Identitate fragilă, regizoarea slovacă Zuzana Piussi examinează concepţia curentă de naţionalitate a compatrioţilor săi. Ea îşi exprimă îngrijorarea că sentimnentul de naţionalitate slovac este destul de fragil şi vulnerabil la utilizări abuzive în scopuri politice. Protagoniştii resping deseori figurile cehe marcante ale istoriei cehoslovace şi preferă să privească spre rădăcinile lor din trecutul „prenaţional” al Marii Moravii. Deşi multe dintre aceste istorisiri sunt mai degrabă tragicomice, evoluţia turbulentă din UE a demonstrat că procesul de căutare a propriei identităţi este un subiect sensibil nu numai în Slovacia.

Vit Janecek s-a născut în 1970 şi lucrează ca cineast, regizor de teatru şi mentor. Este actualmente conducătorul FAMU International şi profesor asociat la FAMU. A absolvit Şcoala de Filosofie a Universităţii Charles din Praga (cu studii de film) şi FAMU (documentar). Interesul său creativ constă în abordarea aspectelor transversale ale realităţii – ştiinţă, politică, societate şi gândire. Contribuie cu articole la diverse publicaţii tipărite şi în mass-media web. Timp de câţiva ani a fost curatorul pentru programe de film în sălile de cinema Roxy şi Archa din Praga, precum şi pentru retrospective istorice la Festivalul Internaţional de Film Karlovy Vary. În 2003 a fost cofondatorul şi a condus timp de câţiva ani Centrul FAMU pentru Studii Audiovizuale. Din 2006, conduce programul educativ FAMU în Burma. De asemenea, lucrează în calitate de consultant de dezvoltare pentru Televiziunea Cehă şi ca tutore în diverse ateliere de creaţie internaţionale. În iunie 2012, a fost ales conducătorul FAMU International.

Zuzana Piussi s-a năcut în 1971 la Bratislava. Din 1992, Zusanna Piussi lucrează ca scenograf şi designer de costume pentru Teatrul Stoka din Bratislava, precum şi pentru alte companii de teatru. În 1999 a scris o piesă pentru propriul spectacol de teatru intitulat Modna prehliadka, în colaborare cu L. Burgr şi I. Hrubanicova. În 2000 a fondat asociaţia liberă pentru operă contemporană, împreună cu L. Burgr. A scris libretele pentru operele John King (2001) şi Tete-a-tete (2002), fiind de asemenea responsabilă de costumaţie şi scenografie. Din 2002 studiază la Academia de Muzică şi Arte Interpretative din Bratislava (VSM), Facultatea de Film şi Televiziune. Primul ei film documentar Vymet a câştigat în 2003 Marele Premiu la Festivalul Internaţional de Film din Beirut.

Acest ciclu de proiecții de film documentar este organizat în parteneriat cu Centrul Ceh din București drept parte a proiectului Centrul Civic al Chișinăului – cinema în aer liber, și beneficiză de suținerea Fundației Culturale Europeane în cadrul programului Acțiune Colectivă pentru Bunurile Comune.

In the frame of Political Cinema, from May 28 to June 23, 2015, at Flat Space, a series of screenings will be organized focusing on the transformation of the Czech and Slovac society through the films of Vít Janeček and Zuzana Piussi.

The films monitor the contemporary Czech and Slovak societies. Although we like to define ourselves as friendly, thoughtful, fair and hardworking people, we are still not able to tame the negative results of the transition period as the allotment of power, the privatization of public property or the search for a new national identity. The series of movies contextualize the development that every society goes through in the period of its newly achieved democracy and of a newly defined structure of the state.

The films will be screened in original language with English subtitles.

Fragile Identity

In Fragile Identity, Slovak director Zuzana Piussi examines her fellow countrymen current notions on nationality. She expresses her concern that Slovak national sentiment is rather fragile and liable to political misuse. The protagonists often reject the leading Czech figures of Czechoslovak history and prefer to look for their roots in the common “pre-national“ past of Great Moravia. Although many of the stories are rather tragicomic, the turbulent developments in the EU have shown that the search for one’s own identity is a sensitive matter not only in Slovakia.

Vít Janeček was born in 1970 and works as a filmmaker, dramatist and mentor. He is currently the head of FAMU International and associate professor at FAMU. He graduated from the School of Philosophy of the Charles University in Prague (film studies) and from FAMU (documentary). His creative interest consists in considering transversal aspects of reality – science, politics, society and thought. He contributes to various papers and web media. For several years, he curated film programs in Roxy and Archa Theatre in Prague and historical retrospectives at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. In 2003, he co-founded and for several years led the FAMU Center for Audiovisual Studies. Since 2006, he leads FAMU´s educational program in Burma. He works also as a development consultant for Czech Television and as a tutor in various international workshops. In June 2012, he was appointed as head of FAMU International.

Zuzana Piussi was born 1971 in Bratislava. Since 1992, Zuzana Piussi works as stage and costume designer for, amongst others, the Stoka theater in Bratislava. In 1999 she wrote her own theatre show titled Modna prehliadka, enlisting the cooperation of L. Burgr and I. Hrubanicova. In 2000 she founded the Free Association for contemporary opera, together with L. Burgr. She wrote the libretti for the operas John King (2001) and Tete-a-tete (2002) and was also responsible for costumes and stage design. Since 2002 she has been studying at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava (VSMU), Faculty of Film and Television. Her first documentary film Výmet was awarded the Main Prize at the IFF Beirut in 2003.

This series of screening is organized in partnership with Czech Cultural Center in Bucharest as part of Chisinau Civic Center – open air cinema project and is supported by the European Cultural Foundation in the frame of the Connected Action for the Commons program.

APEL la PROIECTE pentru APARTAMENT-ul DESCHIS (2015)

În cadrul proiectului CHIOȘC Asociația Oberliht face apel către artiștii din Moldova să vină cu propuneri de proiecte și lucrări care să fie prezentate în APARTAMENT-ul DESCHIS în fiecare lună, ca o intervenție în spațiul acestuia.

APARTAMENT DESCHIS/FLAT SPACE este o replică funcţională a unui apartament de tip socialist, elaborat pentru a reprezenta identitatea proiectului CHIOŞC.

Punctul de plecare în elaborarea designului a fost preocuparea pentru a expune public spaţiul privat al unui apartament limitat de standardele societăţii socialiste.

Structura deschisă a apartamentului sugerează idea unui modul extras dintr-un bloc de apartamente cu elementele de bază specifice societăţilor aflate în tranziţie: faţada principală cu un balcon împachetat în termopan, camera de zi, bucătăria şi ungrup sanitar: chiosc.oberliht.com/apartament/

Vă rugăm să ne trimiteți toate propunerile voastre care ar putea fi realizate în spațiul APARTAMENT-ului DESCHIS (vedeți planul).

Puteți utiliza pereții, podeaua, geamurile, depozitul, spațiul din jurul APARTAMENT-ului. La fel, vă puteți folosi și de panoul informativ iluminat și de suportul pentru cărți poștale și reviste, similare cu cele amplasate pe marginea drumurilor. Proiectele pot să acopere întregul spațiu, dar pot să se limiteze doar la panoul informativ, sau poate doriți să lucrați suprafața pereților – totul este posibil.

Lucrarea voastră va fi expusă timp de o lună maximum, dar poate fi și una temporară – este la alegerea voastră.

Proiectul CHIOŞC, punct de informare cultural şi platformă publică de manifestare a fost lansat în oraşul Chişinău. A fost conceput într-un context social-politic complex al procesului de tranziţie, cu intenția de a promova arta contemporană şi cultura tinerilor în spaţiul public.

CALL for PROJECT PROPOSALS for FLAT SPACE (2015)

In the frame of KIOSK project Oberliht Association calls artists from Moldova to submit project proposals to be presented at FLAT SPACE every month, as an intervention into it.

FLAT SPACE is a functional replica of a socialist apartment, commissioned to represent the identity of the KIOSK project.

The point of departure for the design of the FLAT SPACE was to publicly display the private space of a flat limited by the standards of the socialist society.

The transparency and the openness of the flat give the exposure to an architectural model extracted from the flat building that is composed from few basic elements characteristic to societies in transitions: the main façade with a balcony covered with plastic windows, dining room, kitchen and bathroom: chiosc.oberliht.com/apartament/

We ask you to send all your project proposals that can be realized at FLAT SPACE (see the plans).

You can imagine using the walls, floors, windows, storage, the ground or the square where FLAT SPACE is situated. Also there is a lightbox and postcards support installed, like the ones used for advertisements in the street, which is closed and can be illuminated during the night. Projects can cover the whole space, but also only the lightbox or maybe you have a brilliant idea for the walls of the space. Everything is possible.

Your work can stay 30 days maximum, but it can also be more temporary. It’s up to your imagination.

The KIOSK project – a cultural info-point and a public platform for participation was launched in the city of Chisinau. It has been conceived in a complex social and political context that marks the period of transition, with the intention to promote contemporary art and youth culture in public space.

O lume noua inseamna eroi noi. Cum sa delimitezi o oaza fara masini in inima capitalei? Cum sa creezi un spatiu pe care sa il numesti acasa in mijlocul unui oras supus indiferentei si nepriceperii administrative? Filmul urmareste timp de patru ani luptele “Societatii unei Lumi Noi”, o asociatie de tineri din Tallin, dar si tensiunile crescande dintre principalii activisti ai acestui grup. Ce se intampla cand unul dintre ei realizeaza ca lumea din jur s-a schimbat? Cand se uita in oglinda vede un hippiot obosit care lupta singur. Lumea Noua trebuie descoperita in fiecare zi (sursa).

Like most European cities, Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, is ruled by cars. When yet another road intended exclusively for cars was opened in the New World district in 2006, a group of locals finally ran out of patience. After staging a protest with respirators and gas masks that prevented a ceremonial procession to open this road, cycling activist Erko and architecture student Marten decided with their friends to set up the New World Society. Their work involves implementing various activities that restrict automobile transport in the district, e.g., spray painting fake pedestrian crossings. They decide to present to the mayor and city officials ideas for improving the area and turning it into a pleasant and healthy place to live while obviating the dictatorship of cars. This film about the activities of a young group of Estonians, whose actions manage to inspire many other people in various parts of the country, takes a look at the vital role civic activism plays in contemporary society (source).

Situaţia artei contemporane ucrainene şi dezvoltarea ei poate fi asociată în parte cu practicile artistice de auto-organizare, iniţiative individuale sau colective ale artiştilor lansate în 2004-2005, în timpul Revoluţiei Portocalii. Unele din ele s-au format ca reacţie directă la mişcările portocalii, invadând străzile, mobilizând şi promovând cauzele văzute de artişti esenţiale pentru reînvierea culturii şi intelectualităţii ucrainene, ajustând şi de-construind limbajul protestelor, acţionând în acelaşi timp ca cetăţeni artişti, astfel încercând să se implice în viaţa publică…

Maidanul şi evenimentele ce au urmat în 2013-2014 au impus o nouă viziune asupra rolului artei în societate şi în cadrul transformaărilor socio-politice. Putem afla un element de previziune în multe lucrări ale artiştilor ucraineni realizate cu câţiva ani înainte de evenimentele curente. Din momentul transformări Ucrainei într-o ”zonă fierbinte”, metodele artei cu reacţie rapidă au trecut pe deplin în planul activismului. Artişti care au participat la numeroase evenimente recente încearcă să se supună unei anume distanţări faţă de realitate. Ei doresc să prezinte analize şi reflecţii asupra artei opuse informaţiilor legate de războiul în desfăşurare.

Ukrainian contemporary art and its development can be partially associated with self organized art practices, collectives and artists initiatives formed around 2004/2005, in the time of the Orange Revolution. Some of them were created in direct reaction to the orange movements, taking the street, mobilizing and agitating in favor of the causes they found important for the recovery of Ukrainian cultural and intellectual life, appropriating and deconstructing the language of the protests, in the same time acting as artists citizens, trying to take part in the public life…

Maydan and following events of 2013-2014 forced another look at the role of art in society and socio-political transformation. We can find the element of prevision in many works of Ukrainian artists made in a few years before the current events. From the moment of the transformation of Ukraine into a “hot spot” the methods of rapid respond art completely moved into the plane of activism. Artists who were participants of many recent events try to comply with a certain distance to reality. They wish to submit analytics and reflection of art to oppose the information war attending the conflict.

Războiul e pace. Libertatea e sclavie. Ignoranţa e putere.

Astăzi, 20 de ani de la căderea zidului Berlinului, doi fotografi italieni au fotografiat cîteva apartamente abandonate din oraşul Chemnitz din Germania de Est, unde timpul s-a oprit odată cu apusul perioadei comuniste. Fotografii sunt Massimiliano Boschini şi Mauro Manuini, fondatorii grupului Pommefritz.

Apartamentele pustii sunt o expresie a trecutului, istoriei, a oamenilor care au locuit aici. Acest proiect fotografic este un tribut adus Republicii Democrate Germane sau Germaniei de Est. Acest proiect reprezintă Nostalgia noastră faţă de Est – sau ostalgia – o combinaţie a cuvintelor ost (est) şi nostalgie (‘nostalgia’) care se întîlneşte pe larg în Germania contemporană, unificată. Ostalgia subliniază un dor (algia) care scoate în evidenţă eforturile de recuperare a ceea ce a fost pierdut. Această reconstrucţie este mediată de ironie faţă de trecut şi prezent, combinînd nişte sentimente puternice de înstrăinare faţă de Germania unificată, cu un dor de familiar. Memoria este ancorată într-un simţ de identitate, loc şi lucruri în calitate de cultură materială. Pommefritz sugerează că atunci cînd oamenii sunt strămutaţi de undeva şi nu au pe nimeni cine să le amintească de acest fapt, ei îşi pierd capacitatea de a-şi aminti trecutul care a avut loc acolo. Germanii estici care au fost cetăţeni ai RDG au fost invitaţi să-şi uite trecutul. Urmele spaţiului fizic în care au locuit, regimul comunist care le-a structurat vieţile, arhitectura modernistă, produsele şi experienţele din RDG – par să fi fost exilate din memoria colectivă a Germaniei unificate.

Ostalgie: Reevaluînd trecutul, mergînd înainte spre viitor, nu uita de trecut. Într-un cuvînt, strategia noastră este să utilizăm Ostalgia ca pe o lentilă prin care să examinăm problema viitorului în Germania de Est, un viitor care a fost diluat pînă la nerecunoaştere. Mai curînd, o cunoaştere socială a trecutului estic a devenit mediumul său de comunicare.

Pommefritz este un grup artistic înfiinţat la începutul lui 2004, membrii căruia sunt dornici de provocări şi experienţe fotografice inedite. Intenţia lor este de a evita mesajele şi limbajul fotografiei clasice, prin realizarea unei noi interpretări a unor subiecte mai puţin obişnuite, cum ar fi cabanele italiene vechi, locurile abandonate şi neglijate, unde culorile sunt distorsionate şi alterate cu un efect suprarealist şi oniric.

War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.

Today, 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall two Italian photographers photographed some abandoned apartments in the eastern German city of Chemnitz, where time has stood still since the end of the communist era. The photographers are Massimiliano Boschini and Mauro Manuini, founders of Pommefritz Crew.

Through the empty apartments we perceive the past, the history, the people who lived in these places. This photographic project is a tribute to the German Democratic Republic, or East Germany. This project represents our Nostalgia for the East — or ostalgie, a portmanteau combining the words ost (‘east’) and nostalgie (‘nostalgia’) — has taken hold in contemporary, unified Germany. Ostalgie emphasizes the process of longing (algia) that stresses efforts at the recovery of what was lost. This reconstruction is mediated by irony about the past and present that combines widespread feelings of estrangement from the new unified Germany with a longing for the familiar. The memory is anchored in a sense of identity, place and things as material culture. When people are removed from a place and have no-one to remind them of it Pommefritz suggests that they lose the ability to recall the past that occurred there. East Germans who were citizens of the GDR have been invited to forget their past. The traces of the physical spaces that they inhabited, the communist regime which structured their lives, the modernist architecture, products and experiences of the GDR seem to have been relegated from the collective memory of the unified Germany.

Ostalgie: Revaluing the Past, Regressing into the Future, forward to the future, don’t forget the past. In a word, our strategy is to use Ostalgie as a lens through which to examine the problem of the future in eastern Germany, a future that has by no means been dampened beyond recognition. Rather, a certain social knowledge of eastern pastness has become its medium.

Pommefritz is an artistic group, born in the beginning of 2004, who are eager to challenge themselves and share their experiences with their cameras. They intent to escape from the classical messages and means of photography by the realization of a new interpretation of uncommon settings such as old Italian cottages, deserted and neglected places where colors are distorted and corrupted with a surrealist and dreamlike effect.

La fel, vă puteţi folosi şi de panoul informativ iluminat şi de suportul pentru cărţi poştale şi reviste, similare cu cele amplasate pe marginea drumurilor. Proiectele pot să acopere întregul spaţiu, dar pot să se limiteze doar la panoul informativ, sau poate doriţi să lucraţi suprafaţa pereţilor – totul este posibil. Lucrarea voastră va fi expusă timp de o lună maximum, dar poate fi şi una temporară – este la alegerea voastră.

Puteţi trimite schiţe, fotografii sau texte. În cazul în care proiectul propus va fi selectat noi vă vom oferi suportul necesar pentru prezentarea lui în spaţiul APARTAMENT-ului DESCHIS.

Proiectul CHIOŞC, punct de informare cultural şi platformă publică de manifestare a fost lansat în oraşul Chişinău. A fost conceput într-un context social-politic complex al procesului de tranziţie, cu intenţia de a promova arta contemporană şi cultura tinerilor în spaţiul public.

In the frame of KIOSK project Oberliht Association calls artists from Moldova to submit project proposals to be presented at FLAT SPACE every month, as an intervention into it.

FLAT SPACE is a functional replica of a socialist apartment, commissioned to represent the identity of the KIOSK project. The point of departure for the design of the FLAT SPACE was to publicly display the private space of a flat limited by the standards of the socialist society. The transparency and the openness of the flat give the exposure to an architectural model extracted from the flat building that is composed from few basic elements characteristic to societies in transitions: the main façade with a balcony covered with plastic windows, dining room, kitchen and bathroom.

We ask you to send all your project proposals that can be realized at FLAT SPACE (see the plans below). You can imagine using the walls, floors, windows, storage, the ground or the square where FLAT SPACE is situated. Also there is a lightbox and postcards support installed, like the ones used for advertisements in the street, which is closed and can be illuminated during the night. Projects can cover the whole space, but also only the lightbox or maybe you have a brilliant idea for the walls of the space. Everything is possible. Your work can stay 30 days maximum, but it can also be more temporary. It’s up to your imagination.

The KIOSK project – a cultural info-point and a public platform for participation was launched in the city of Chisinau. It has been conceived in a complex social and political context that marks the period of transition, with the intention to promote contemporary art and youth culture in public space.
